ASCLEPIUS Autumn School
The ASCLEPIUS Autumn School will take place at the University of Minho from 13-16 October 2026. Organized by the Bacteriophage Biotechnology Group of the Centre of Biological Engineering at the University of Minho (Portugal), the programme will consist of lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions covering key aspects of bacteriophage biology, biotechnology, and therapeutic applications.
The Autumn School aims to provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in phage research while fostering interaction with experts in the field.
The Autumn School topics include:
Phage characterization
Phage therapy
Therapeutic applications of phage-derived proteins
Applications of phages in agriculture and veterinary medicine
Phage engineering
Phage-biofilm interactions
During the hands-on laboratory sessions, participants will learn how to:
Isolate bacteriophages and assess bacterial susceptibility to phages
Perform bioinformatics analyses for phage research
Genetically manipulate bacteriophages
Evaluate phage activity against bacterial biofilms
Who should attend?
This course is intended for national and international PhD students affiliated with a university.
Participation is free of charge and is limited to 20 participants.
Participants will be selected based on a short narrative CV and a motivation letter.
The course will be conducted in English. Participants who successfully complete the Autumn
