Knowledge Exchange Between the University of Minho and Eliava Institute

As part of the ongoing collaboration within the ASCLEPIUS project, researchers from the University of Minho, Hugo Oliveira and Luís Melo, visited the Eliava Institute to share their expertise and exchange knowledge in the field of bacteriophage research.

During the visit, Hugo Oliveira presented “Sequencing and Genomics Applied to Bacteriophages”, focusing on the application of sequencing and genomic approaches to the study and characterization of bacteriophages. The presentation provided an opportunity to discuss how genomic data can support phage research and contribute to a deeper understanding of bacteriophage diversity and biology.

Luís Melo presented “Phage–Biofilm In Vitro Interactions at Different Infection Conditions”, highlighting the importance of studying phage–biofilm interactions under different experimental conditions. The presentation addressed approaches for investigating phage activity against bacterial biofilms and the factors that can influence these interactions.

The visit created a valuable opportunity for researchers from the two institutions to exchange expertise, discuss experimental approaches, and strengthen scientific collaboration. Such knowledge-sharing activities are an important part of the ASCLEPIUS project, supporting the development of research capacity and fostering closer connections between European research teams working in bacteriophage research and phage therapy.
